Description
Beak, Feather, & Bone is a collaborative worldbuilding tool as well as a competitive map-labeling RPG. Starting with an unlabeled city map, players are assigned community roles before taking turns claiming and describing locations.
Beak, Feather, & Bone is, firstly, a bird-themed, storytelling RPG. Think, Corvid Sim City, but the map is pre-made and you get to label it. It is also a unique, broadly-applicable, cooperative world-building system. A tool, a useful way to think about creating engaging, lifelike places in any genre and with all manner of citizens.
Begin in the game’s ravenfolk world with an (included!) map. Using a deck of playing cards, players take turns defining the function of each building as well as its beak (reputation), feather (appearance), and bone (interior). What is it for? Who goes there? Is it a school – shabby, but well-attended with dedicated teachers, books and scrolls stacked to the ceiling? Perhaps it’s a hall of records – stately, but so official it’s seldom-visited, floors gleaming? As the town grows, stories will emerge. You’ll meet citizens and connect their relationships, fill in the local history and lore, and lay out your community’s politics.
‘Lightly competitive,’ but with included solo, co-op, and character-focused rules. Includes three paper maps to work from and 11 community roles with original character illustrations. Use the suggested ravenfolk scenario or imagine your own fantasy town from scratch.
