At Knave of Cups, we love gamebooks. (Which, in case you’re not familiar, we’re using the term gamebook here to specifically “pre-written branching narrative novellas.” We also sell lots of other sorts of games that are contained in books, but words are funny things.) If you’re an ancient, shambling creature a child of the 80s/90s such as ourselves, gamebooks were likely one of the first experiences you had with solo tabletop gaming. Gamebooks are simple compared to solo board games or even journaling games, but therein lies their charm. A whole adventure awaits, and all that’s required of you is to pick which page, roll a dice or two, and maybe solve a riddle.
Over the holiday season, you can order a randomly selected, gift-wrapped gamebook from our collection here at KoC HQ. Maybe it’s a present for yourself. Maybe it’s nostalgic gift for a young adventurer who’s never heard of such things. Either way, it’s an adventure, it’s a surprise, and it’s a minor discount.

Choose Your Own Adventure books are the fourth bestselling children’s book series of all time. Titles run the gamut – mermaids, curses, and sci-fi futures. Surfers, race car drivers, and archaeologists. Ghosts and wizards, zombie penpals and, uhh… ant… people?
Usborne Adventure Gamebooks were new additions to the shop for 2025. These titles are combination solo adventures and illustrated puzzles. Our six selections lean fantasy (except for one, a science fiction storyline about being a space bounty hunter).
Who knows what adventure you’ll undertake? Not you. And quite frankly, not us, either. We’re wrapping every book with fancy wrapping paper, so no one will know what you’ve got until it’s time to reveal the surprise!
