Welcome to Yōkai Hunters Club. A rules-light TTRPG about hunting down mythological Japanese creatures known as yōkai in the hot summer of 1995 with your friends.
Yōkai Hunters Club is a self-contained tool for any Storyteller to create a small sleepy Japanese summer adventure to regain something lost.
If you want an unsettling, R-rated small-town Japanese monster mystery, CHOROGAIDEN is for you. But if you’d prefer a nostalgic, G-rated small-town Japanese monster mystery, try Yōkai Hunters Club, an RPG about kids battling their town’s resident spirits. Yōkai – supernatural entities – reside all around us. Some mischievous, some friendly, others malevolent, yōkai have as many different motivations as they have physical forms. One of them, unfortunately, has taken something valuable from you – a pet? A sibling? A precious heirloom? Luckily for you, it’s summer, so you’ve got time to round up your friends. Do your research while the sun is up and go on the hunt at dusk. Hurry, else the yōkai will whisk their new treasure away forever!
Yōkai Hunters Club uses a unique Pool system, in which a well of non-replenishing dice represents each player’s health – players can select any amount to overcome challenges, but tire themselves as they progress. Game includes plenty of art, an introductory adventure, and Storyteller (GM) guidelines, as well as tables to help create your town, your kid characters, your yōkai, and more.
