With Your Shield Or On It is a dark fantasy oracle deck by Seattle artist Pam Wishbow. Each of its 42 numbered cards boasts a symbolic, relief print-style shield illustration inspired by tombstone iconography, classic heraldry, and – in the creator’s own words – “an antique German oracle deck I spotted but sadly passed up in an antique store a long time ago.” What might your draw reveal? Dagger-wielding disembodied hands, bound by chains. A shadowy town. An agreement made in blood. A wise feline. Your time, nearly up.
Images appear in suitably dramatic black and matte gold. Card backs are a repeating pattern of mystical icons. Use With Your Shield Or On It as intended – to bring meaning to the everyday chaos of life – or in your game as a storytelling device, world building tool, character/NPC backstory-builder, etc. If you need thematic seeds, the shields within this deck have a direction for you.
