Description
You’re A Driver
Licensed to go anywhere, with the grit to handle anything. There’s gas in the tank, an X on the map, and miles of blacktop ahead. Race along the open road, collect the pieces of a changed world, and build something new together.
Let’s hit the road.
TORQ: Operator Manual is a multiplayer post-apocalyptic RPG where the cars drive fast but cooperation is the rule of the wasteland. It’s Mad Max meets Annihilation meets that optimistic flavor of sci-fi where people actually want to help one another.
TORQ is also two games in one: Road and Reststop.
Road is a grid-based, GM-less playmat race. Represent vehicles as note cards (or, if you’re feeling immersive, an armload of Matchbox cars you found at a garage sale) and chart a chaotic course across a ruined, weird world. Navigate varied landscapes, from scorching valleys and overgrown forests to crumbling highways and the husks of once-shining cities. Obliterate obstacles, dodge creatures, and fight Bad Guys. Hell, fight each other! It’s a rally race!
Reststop, meanwhile, is for chill, co-op storytelling. In every settlement, you’ll use your Driver’s unique skills to help the people you meet. Treat sickness, fix a water reclamation system, deliver packages, spread knowledge, or – if you want – choose a weirder specialization. An Aggie, a xenobotantist who studies the world’s strange plants. A Speakerbox, a community-loving, event-planning, celebration-minded logistics wizard (who can DJ). A Wose, the proprietor of a traveling menagerie, plenty of theatrics alongside research and education.
Includes two modes of play, Hard Charging arcade mode or meandering, plot-driven Scenic Route. Plus, this book is beautiful. Fun to look at, fun to read. Horizontally-oriented with a vibrant, full-color interior including art-forward design and layout. Rounded 1970s fonts complement newsprint-style collage and graphic novel-level ink drawings. Ayo has been wanting Knave of Cups to stock TORQ forever, and we finally made it happen.
- 100-page, full-color, 8.5″ x 5.5″ perfectbound book
- For 2-5 players playing cooperatively
- A note from the creator – TORQ’s world is more humanistic than its post-apocalyptic predecessors: this is not a game for prepper-power fantasy, gun nut brinksmanship, or a rehash of feudalism. TORQ’s world is one of many communities living independently and together, tied together by the driver’s who make it from point A to point B, mutual aid, and the weird world
