In The World We Left Behind, play as astronauts trekking across an alien planet. Learn about the planet’s flora and fauna while uncovering vestiges of the past. What happened to the sapient species that called this planet home? Why do only remnants of their lives remain?
The World We Left Behind is a contemplative RPG for curious explorers, xenobiologists, and fans of Together Among The Stars who love imagining fantastic places but yearn for a more complex experience. Think: Scavengers Reign but lower stakes and less violence. Wreck This Deck but ancient cities instead of demons.
A little bit map-making and a little bit journaling, you’ll use a deck of cards and a marker to visualize your journey across a long-abandoned planet. Encounter flora and fauna alongside ruins and relics. Who lived here? Where did they go? Record your observations. Experience awe and wonder, loneliness and sadness.
Play alone or with up to four other adventurers – this game was designed for 2 – 4 sessions, but modifications for one-shot play are included. The World We Left Behind was originally commissioned by BalletCollective NYC in 2023. Choreographer Troy Schumacher and composer Phong Tran created a performance and soundtrack based on their playthrough. What will you discover?
