Description

Once upon a time in the infinite and ever-changing Great Library, there lived a fairy tale in search of being told, for that is how such stories survive and grow. It was the tale of an impossible theft, so it found a target, it found a thief, and soon after that, the Scryptwyrm found that a vital song had been stolen from its mind.

Song of the Scryptwyrm is a solo fantasy mystery set in the Great Library of The Librarian’s Apprentice. Haven’t played The Librarian’s Apprentice? That’s fine! The Great Library is an infinite space, filled with magical knowledge, surreal locations, and otherworldly patrons. The Library’s catalog unwinds, never ending, and all kinds of beings work there, from ordinary humans to the famed Scryptwyrm, a creature renowned for its wisdom and extensive knowledge. Can you, a mere apprentice, travel the library, interview suspects, collect clues, and aid the Scryptwyrm in recovering its stolen song?

Song of the Scryptwyrm is a hack of the Hints and Hijinx system, which prioritizes a good story over a single puzzle solution. Unlike other Hints and Hijinx games, you’ll learn the rules as you go and consult a unique oracle mechanic – your Collection – to shape events. Game includes 36 contacts/witnesses/suspects and 18 locations to visit (plus generators to create more). Discover tables galore – motives, methods, opportunities, strange Library artifacts possessing secret meanings. Hey, investigating is important but so is collecting ephemera. Song of the Scryptwyrm may be a mystery but it also, undoubtedly, a Librarian’s Apprentice game.

    • 60-page full color zine
    • Requires three d6 dice and a deck of playing cards
