Description
The Sanctuary
The Sanctuary is a place of great power – power that needs to be protected and kept from falling into the hands of those who may misuse it. A group of Guardians will rise to protect it, but by the time their final fight against the Threat is over, only one will remain.
The Sentinel
You are the lone guardian of a place of great power – known to you only as The Sanctuary. Many years you have kept vigil in this place, guarding what is kept within from any and all who come to disrupt it or steal it for themselves.
Sanctuary & Sentinel are two complementary solo games, one played after the other. Together, they follow the fall of The Sanctuary, a vaunted, magical location of great power. Build the space and tell its story, then witness the attack that reduces it to rubble. When the battle is done, take the perspective of its only remaining Guardian. Think on your past while you keep The Sanctuary – what remains of it – safe.
Sanctuary is both a map-making exercise and a world building, storytelling game. A deck of playing cards forms the layout of the building then fleshes out its history, its locations of importance, and the lives of its Guardians. Once the scene is set, the Threat attacks, and additional playing card draws tell the story of the Guardians’ battle. In spite of their efforts, they lose. Only one Guardian remains.
Sentinel is a solo journaling game. Follow the life of The Sanctuary’s remaining Guardian. Time passes. They reminisce on their experiences, explore the ruins of their home, and continue to defend The Sanctuary against would-be invaders. The Sanctuary holds plenty of secrets they can yet discover. In the end, will they hold fast and triumph? Or fade away, regretful, wishing they could have done more?
Though created separately, both Sanctuary and Sentinel have been printed together, as a single A5 zine. While these games were designed for solo play, they could easily adapt for a group wanting collaborative, GM-less storytelling.
- A5 size, 54 pages, full color
- Sanctuary requires a deck of playing cards and one d6 die, Sentinel requires a deck of playing cards and a set of polyhedral dice
- Play solo or collaboratively, storytelling together as a GM-less group
