Description
“Railways” is an solo strategy game by designer Alban Viard, and part of the Nano9Games series of games. Each game in this series is comprised of 9 cards, 9 dice, and 9 cubes. An exercise in minimalism and simplicity.
In Railways, you manage a railway company over the course of 12 decades (rounds,) navigating the actions available to you to make most efficient use of your time. It is a thinky, low-randomness solo game where dice are used for tracking stats and not for rolling. 4 cards randomly determine your map at the start of the game, and then 4 more cards from you deck of available actions. All this sounds simple enough, but Railways manages to pack a surprising amount of depth into its very few components, and will have you carefully mulling over your choices.
2 sets of railways can be combined to form a 2-player version, however different color cubes/dice are needed for this and not provided.
