Description
John Berkey may not be a household name, but his style is iconic and immediately recognizable. Berkey’s spaceships are unmistakable: wild, semi-abstract, richly complex imaginary structures. These spaceships, simultaneously fanciful and mechanical, graced the cover of many a sci-fi paperback and magazine throughout the late 20th century. Berkey also did quite a bit of work for blockbuster films in the seventies, including the 1976 remake of King Kong. Some of his paintings from the early seventies would be used by George Lucas to inspire the look of Star Wars, and later he would be hired to paint promotional art for the film.
