Welcome to Instant Star Ships, a tool for quickly spinning up weird and wonderful spaceships and drones. There are many types of cards that you can mix-and-match to build and remix whatever you need.
Instant Starships is a card-based world building tool, all the spacecraft-imagining potential of An Infinity of Starships but condensed, portable, and straightforward. How does it work? Instant Starships includes four types of cards: Ships & Drones, Names, Tech, and Designations. In each category, pick specific things that resonate with you or let fate unspool and choose at random.
Ship and Drone cards show a variety of spacecraft. Which is which? What’s their scale? It’s up to you! Name cards are organized by vibe – use this to narrow down your choices or combine names as written into something new. Tech cards each list two options. Pick the one that feels right and display it under your ship’s image. Draw again, repeating until your ship’s features are fully described. Finally, grab the Designation cards (Class, Scope, and Type) and choose one option from each. That’s it! Your ship’s ready to fly!
Rob Turpin’s evocative illustrations follow a colorful retro aesthetic reminiscent of artists like Moebius. Use Instant Starships for the pure fun of it or to set the stage for an upcoming cosmic campaign in your system of choice. Deck includes 52 images, 108 technologies, 70 names, and 1000 types – did you do the math? That’s 393,120,000 possible ships!
