Description

Greg Hildebrandt is one half of “The Brothers Hildebrandt,” twin painters of fantasy art. Working together early in their careers, the brothers’ preferred medium was oil paints, realistic but soft and gently impressionistic, and often featuring their signature use of brightly colored lighting to achieve dramatic effects. The brothers’ found initial success painting film posters (including for the UK release of Star Wars) and a popular series of Lord of the Rings calendars. Together, they designed an ill-fated fantasy film, Urshurak, that was never produced, instead eventually seeing life as an illustrated novel. Ultimately, this project would be the last they worked on together for 12 years.

This card series comes from Greg’s solo era, from 1981-92. In addition to the expected high fantasy art, the series includes illustrations from different classic novels such as Robin Hood or the Wizard of Oz. Just two years after these cards would be printed the two Brothers’ would re-unite working on another trading card line for Marvel comics, and continued to work both separately and in tandem until shortly before Tim’s untimely death.

  • These trading cards are vintage stock and were produced in 1992 by Comic Images.
  • Because of their age, cards may stick together and slightly degrade the print. (Gently flex the cards with your hand before opening to help with this.)
  • Each sealed pack comes with 10 random cards, and there are 90 cards in the complete set.
  • Chase cards include rare “Prism” cards.
