Description
An isolated city of flame stands in defiance of a frozen wasteland. The moon colony established by the Apollo 11 mission finds life-lengthening compounds on its surface. A city explodes out of the Prismatic Sea at the convergence point of dozens of leylines.
The stranded town built a train to the other half of the planet. The city of flame overthrew their iceborne mercantile overlords. The new settlement on the moon held elections in an attempt to distance themselves from countries on Earth. And of course, the city in the Prismatic Sea succumbed to the power of the Shapechanger Witch Cartel.
Grasping Nettles is a worldbuilding game for 1-6 players about a community and its story over the course of generations.
We love worldbuilding! There are as many ways to do it as there are worlds to build. Use media you love. Use a d100 table. Use an oracle deck. This, though – this is a mechanic you’re gonna want to try. Grasping Nettles proudly features a rondel! Use the roll of a d6 to move pieces clockwise around The Wheel, a circular game board divided into labeled wedges. Where you land tells you (or your fellow players) what detail to add next. Something as straightforward as an important location? Maybe something complex, like a society-wide project or a charming scene between citizens? You might even peek into action occurring just outside your world’s boundaries.
Play in ‘generations’ for as long as you choose – each takes between one and two hours to complete. Play alone or with up to five other people. When you’re through, you’ll have created a unique world with important historical figures, changing seasons, rich culture, and unfolding history.
