Going For Broke is a fast-paced sitcom roleplaying game about a collective house scrambling to get enough money together.
Choose your roommate, choose an episode premise, and dive in. Each episode opens with an argument about how to deal with a huge expense, which spirals into two ill-conceived plots. Ultimately, one succeeds, the other fails, and we’re right back where we started: with the house barely getting by.
Going For Broke is a lighthearted ensemble comedy RPG. Flex your storytelling muscles as you follow the antics of a motley crew of roommates. It’s creative, broke twenty-somethings vs The Ridiculous Problem of the Week! Can the crew fix a basement flood on their own? Save the extremely cool but deep-in-debt community center? Raise their missing roommate’s rent before the end of the month?
Going For Broke is structurally framed for narrative ease and maximum plot shenanigans. Episodes include The Rent, The Flood, The Trip, The Fundraiser, The Start-Up, and The Holidays. Game includes 12 possible roommates. Each roommate’s ‘character sheet’ card consists of their name, a headshot, a hobby, their occupation, two tendencies (flaws), a Big Secret, and a central personal conflict. Every trait balances (for some of us, nostalgic) relatability and absurd sitcom gold. Additional ‘resource’ cards contain episode synopses, storytelling tips, game rules, and more.

- One time, Jen’s friend decided they needed to quickly make enough money to go to Mexico for a silent retreat. They started washing dishes at a nearby restaurant but, lacking common sense, wore canvas shoes every night. Which got very wet. And stayed very wet. After a week, Jen’s friend became afflicted with infamous World War One malady Trench Foot, a condition they were only able to positively ID not by going to the doctor, but by asking members of the touring band sleeping in their living room (a different roommate’s friends). They did end up going to the silent retreat. The whole time they were gone, Jen was afraid they’d joined a cult.
