Galatea: Paragon Edition

You were made to be perfect.

Your creator is a brilliant artist – celebrated, lonely, tormented – who has never been satisfied with his creations. Until now. His magnum opus, his crowning masterpiece, the pinnacle of his art – is you. And yesterday you came to life.

You must remain perfect for him – or else.

We love an introspective fantasy solo game! Follow a newly-sentient work of art as they learn about themselves, the world they were born into, their creator, and their purpose. Still, self-awareness is inevitable and with it comes disappointment. Conflict. Sadness. Rejection.

Galatea is built around the Wretched & Alone system, a framework that all-but-guarantees stress, strife, and eventual loss. A tumbling block tower represents your sense of self, while draws from a card deck bring you worldly events and challenges. Use playing cards for a game about trust or a tarot deck for a game about discovering yourself. The Paragon Edition includes a gold foil-embellished cover, revamped layouts, updated prompts, and deliciously intricate new art.

Galatea is simultaneously excellent for (but also, possibly, an emotional minefield for) now-grown eldest children, only children, neurodiverse kids, children of immigrants, burnt-out former gifted kids, and anyone who’s attempted to live up to the idea of yourself while really, really, really yearning to be understood. We believe there is much to be gained from exploring these experiences, but take care. “Unrealistic expectations” are the name of the game.

  • A5 36-page color zine
  • Requires a tumbling block tower and a deck of playing cards or a tarot deck
  • Content advisory: game contains themes of narcissism, controlling behavior, co-dependence, helplessness, despair, self-mutilation and suicide
