You are a probate attorney at a law firm that specializes in the execution of the wills of eccentric millionaires.
Normally, this involves meticulously organizing elaborate scavenger hunts, indulgent galas, or absurd weeks-long competitions.
This time around, you received a letter from your Client after their untimely death describing their belief that one of the potential heirs may have murderous intent. Not only will you be hosting elaborate challenges to determine who will be the principal beneficiary of your Client’s estate, you must discover who the killer is at the same time.
Estate of Play is a solo murder mystery RPG with a classic kickoff: a wealthy eccentric has died and a four people stand to inherit. One of them is the murderer. Created around the Hints and Hijinx system, you’ll do your job with a deck of cards and a set of polyhedral dice. What is your job? Lawyer. Detective. And, uhh… event planner-slash-host, creating challenges with vibes like ‘vaguely humiliating game show’ and ’emotional reality TV.’
Determine your client’s details with a few dice rolls – their wealth, how they died, and their particular flavor of weirdness. Then, playing cards track your suspects and shape the competitions you’ll stage for them. Every challenge you pull off yields clues, damning little nuggets of information with which you’ll assemble your conclusion. Worried you won’t guess the solution? In a Hints and Hijinx RPG, the focus is on your experiences – your story – and the clues you collect. More clues give you more info but they also give you better odds of being right!
