Two tarot-driven solo games, Venatores and Belluae, make up the Dance of Death Bundle. Both are playable as separate games but together – as a set, with the included additional instructions – they complement one another, plot lines weaving into a bittersweet duet.
In Ventaores, the player is a heartbroken hunter, tracking the monster responsible for the death of their beloved. Vengeance burns within them, spilled blood is their goal. In Belluae, the player is fleeing. They are transforming into something horrifying. As they run, they reflect on their human life and everything they are leaving behind. They dash off missives to their beloved, attempting to explain, and leave the letters, hoping they find them.
Each player – hunter and monster – have seven days to hunt, skirmish, and run before the duet rules bring you together for one final confrontation. Can the truth prevail? Can this situation be explained? Or will anger, heartbreak, and fear win the day?
Games complement one another visually as well, with poetic layouts and unsettling, sometimes naturalistic, sometimes folk art-style print illustrations. Don’t want to play with a second person? Weave the romantic tragedy yourself, solo, and play both hunter and monster.
