Description
Your town has deep secrets, terrifying monsters, unspeakable evils, a clandestine city council making strange decrees…and a public radio station!
Community Radio is a multiplayer improv-based game that celebrates absurdity and the paranormal as much as it does the utility of public media. Wait, did we just say “a game that celebrates the utility of public media?” Yes we did! Community Radio invites you to explore a strange town and its supernatural problems through vignettes of daily life as well as broadcasts from its public radio station.
Players choose from three possible stations to set the vibe (anywhere from surreal and wacky to unsettling and sinister). Gameplay alternates from slice-of-life improv (the community) to radio broadcasts (the Host). During the community phase, players take turns acting out two-minute scenes. Game provides background/lore as well as major character descriptions and a variety of d6 tables to help decide details. At a scene’s conclusion, players each contribute a possible city council decree to Host’s news desk. Y’know, normal town stuff: no swimming in the lake… dogs must be leashed at all times… do not acknowledge the mist creatures who are wafting through downtown. Play then moves forward to the Host, who uses the radio phase to cover breaking news (the events of the prior scene), have a quick show, and officialize one of the decrees.
Community Radio requires a GM but is otherwise flexible. Play with or without an overarching plot. Play as many scene/radio cycles as you want. In this town, members of the community live their lives in spite of the nonstop shenanigans. Good luck!
