You are a songsmith and you must cross the causeway in the Ravenous Sea to sing to the Serpent King. Your home is built on the back of the sleeping King – one of many giant beasts to roam the world – and every 100 years, he begins to wake. A song must be sung to him to lull him back to sleep, and you have been chosen to sing the song.
The fate of your family and the villagefolk depends on you.
A Song for a Serpent King is an introspective solo storytelling game. Your journey across the Ravenous Sea will fuel your mind, allowing you to write a song that will – hopefully – keep the Serpent King fast asleep. Sail the waves, experiencing both wonders and perils. Each day you’ll travel, gathering ideas as you reflect on your life, your feelings, and your solitary journey so far. Each night, you’ll assemble your ideas into a verse of your song. When, at last, you stand before the great Serpent’s slowly-waking face, will your song succeed?
Chill and poetic – or, rather, lyrical – A Song for a Serpent King includes everything you need to play except for a few d6 dice and a deck of playing cards. Instructions include setup, world building, prompts for your card draws, and the method by which you’ll score your song to determine success or failure.
